Julius Caesar Essay

Does the End Justify the Means?

“Let’s be sacrificers, but not butchers, Caius We all stand up against the spirit of Caesar” line 166~167 page 74. This line shows how Brutus wants to kill Caesar, but no kill him in a cruel way, but honorable. The two motivators that drew out Brutus to join the conspirators and kill Caesar were, Honor and patriotism. He thought that killing Caesar was right, as he will get him more honorable and is a benefit of the Rome as he said he is ambitious.

Brutus’ first motivator to kill Caesar was Honor. He was known as an honorable man since his ancestors. Honor motivated Brutus to kill Caesar as, he was thinking that Caesar should die due to too much power and also he wanted to earn the honor of people for it. “Lets kill him boldly, but not wrathfully.” This is another example of Brutus that Caesar deserves to be dead but as in his honor, he will not kill him in wrathfully. He also says to kill him in a way that is significant but not in the way that is dishonoring him. This is as his ancestors were also renowned for being honorable. “Lets all cry, ‘Peace. Freedom and Liberty!” – line 110, page 112. This line shows how Brutus thinks he did the right thing for the people and in honor he had no choice. This also shows how Brutus is thinking that killing Caesar brought all these treats to the people of Rome. Honor was a motivator, as he was pressured to do the right thing for them.

The second motivator of Brutus to take part in the conspirators to kill Caesar was Patriotism. “Romans Countrymen, Lovers,” line 13 page 128. “… This is my answer: Not that I loved Caesar less, but that I loved Rome more.” This shows that he loves the country in two ways. He is patriotic by looking at the words he used at the Funeral speech, ‘Lovers’. As you can see also the latter quote, He is explaining death of Caesar to protect Rome. He said that he also loved Caesar but to save Rome from him he slew him. Also he describes, “I loved Rome more” this shows that he loved his country more than he loved people privately. “ Had you rather Caesar were living, and die all slaves, than that Caesar were dead, to live all free men?” – page 128 line 21-23 . “… But he was ambitious, I slew him. There is tears, for his love; joy, for his fortune; honour, for his valour; and death, for his ambition.” Line 24-27 pages 130. This shows that he protected them from him becoming a tyranny. Brutus also said he saved them from Caesar’s ambition by describing they would be slaves if he was still alive. Patriotism is another factor that affect him to slew Caesar as he thought more about the benefit of the people.

To sum it up, Brutus has justified that the tyrant, who Caesar will become, was put to end so that the Rome will not suffer. The two factors that have affected him to kill them are mainly patriotism and honor. Brutus killed him as to justify that he will help the roman better off not making Caesar a tyrant.

In the above, there is my essay.

Ideas and Content

In the passage above, it appropriate demonstrated ideas as I used the idea how Brutus killing Caesar did not justify the mean. But I don't think my idea was clear. My idea was focused on how Brutus was motivated to kill Caesar due to some factors but cutting the big idea down to examples was a issue. I think to get the idea that i have and support if by more clear and obvious examples would have helped my essay express my thinkings.

Organization

In the essay, I showed a developing organization. The essay doesn't clearly show a organized topic and reason-explanation paragraphs. I demonstrated some type of organizing as I gave few quote after I stated about why Brutus killing Caesar doesn't justify the mean. I think I could have improved this by planing the essay focusing on organization.

Personal Growth

To compare to the Julius Caesar essay and The Alchemist essay, I improved slightly. I think I did improve on the ideas and content as before the story was really out of idea. Also the ideas that were given were a bit off task. In this essay I have a straight forward topic but not good supporting detail. Also I need clear reasons.

SLR Reflection

Reason Critically- I think reasoning critically is the most important SLR used in the essay. Choosing the quotes for the essay, finding a right supporting detail to the topic and many others critically reasoning skills are used in this essay.

I-Movie reflection

Think Creatively
This SLR was used in my collage when i had to make a creative poster about the Lost Boys of Sudan where we learned how their life was from the Dinkas to America. Using the photos that i found i had to make the images link to each other that makes a story about their life. Also you have to be creative in finding the picture that actually make sense and that will help make the story more flow throw easily

Reason Critically
The images that i selected shows a deep relationship to what the lost boys has gone through and what conflicts they faced. This shows a understanding of how we can show of what we learned about the Lost Boys. The highlights were the conflicts that face and how wherever they go there is a new conflict that they wait for even though they seek to get out of it.

Communicate Effectively
In my collage, I was communicating that i was feeling empathy toward the Lost Boys of Sudan. One example in my i-movie is that, i told the audience how to help them and visiting the website given would help them take part to help them. Also I thought it would help for the people to gain knowledge about the Lost Boys would help them notice about them.

Live Ethically
My collage put a lot of conflicts that they face and what hardship they had. This i think will create empathy toward the viewers by making them think how different their life is compared to theirs. Viewers will feel empathic to how they see that how unlucky they are.

band blog assignment 2

How did you feel when the end of the story was not given to you?
When the end was not given to me, i was desperate to find out what was going to be at the end. The story that we read made me predict and wanted to find out the end. I also felt in tension as the mystery of the black spot had made me become very curious.

How did you feel about the black box and the black spot/blank paper? Explain.
The black spot and the box made me feel in tension as i thought it was going to be something very serious. Also as in the story they slowed down when they picked it. The family who picked the spotted paper was in anger and despair. When the other people picked a blank paper, they felt relieved. The following reasons are why i felt in tension.

why did the author leave these voids in the story?
I think the author left a void in the story to make sure he hooks in the reader. As reaching the climax, he put a momentum that built up to a climax. The momentum was the description when he came up to pick the paper.

Band blog post

The International School of Kuala Lumpur provides an exceptional education that challenges each student to develop the attitudes, skills, knowledge and understanding to become a highly (silence) successful, spirited, socially responsible global citizen.

I put the silence before giving what the students will be like as it builds up most momentum, as it is close to the ending and it is my personally best place to fit the void in it and it captures audience. Also adding the silence in the place just before main idea so that the audience wants to know what important things they want you to have.

One way a composer can put a void in the place where the momentum builds up and just before the melody starts, make some tension and a void after it to capture more audience into the piece and for them to think “I want to see what happens next.” Another way how a composer can build up a tension and release between the audiences is putting a sudden craziness of sound to confuse the audience. The release would be starting to play the right song from the musicians one by one.

The Lost Boys

My character that i chose to write about is Santino. He experiences some difficulties as a Sudanese migrant. Also as he is used to the culture there, there is some conflict that is going on due to getting use to America. Also Santino faces some difficulties in to get use to how they work, how he will get his own life there, and other. Also culture and people there are very different as well as the work that he has to do. Before when he was in the camp, he just had to take care of his own, play basketball or soccer, and just live there having fun. But America, which he thought of as heaven, did not seem to be what he thought. He had hard works to do, couldn't get a lot of friends there, and it seemed like he was having some difficulties with his people back in the camp. He had some pressure to send them back money. Also he was driving car before earning the license which caused a bit of problem. Santino also wanted to be as free as peter to go to school and get educated. Some culture difference that i saw was when Santino was usually playing basketball. Also the dancing and celebrating of them were very different from the people in America.

Julius Caesar acting

My partner is William who is Cassius

content:
A storm has just began in the Capitol. All the people out there are scared by the storms heavy rain, thunders and lightnings. Casca is very afraid of the storm and says that all the crazy things are happening right now. There is a lion in the Capitol, Burning mans and owls flying. Casca believes that the storm is some kind of omens to show the wrath of the gods. But Cassius connects it with wrath due to Caesar. In this part, Casca joins the conspirators.

Significance:
The significance of the passage is that, this passage characterizes some Casca and Cassius as well as it sets the mood before they drive into the climax. Also this passage builds up the momentum and starts the engine for assassination of Caesar. Casca is represented as a type of character that is very scared and confused of what to do when the storm came. On the other hand, Cassius was rather dull. Also Casca is described as inert person. Cassius tells that Casca's interpret of the storm is not right. He also give a motive for Caesar's reason that he should be dead telling how he would not be a wolf and he would be a tyrant. Cassius can be drawn out as a person who is smart and tactical. He is gaining power for the conspirators. one of his way how he convinced him was that this is not a punishment; he stepped out side and let the thunder hit him but no thunder hit him. Also some literary techniques are used such as foreshadowing of Caesar's death and a vivid imagery of the storm.

The lines:
Casca
"A common slave, wou know him well by sight,
Held up his left hand, which did flame and burn
Like twenty torches join'd; and yet his hand,
Not sensible of fire, remained unscorch'd.
Besides (I ha' not since put up my sword)
Against the Capitol I met a lion,
Who glazed upon me, and surly by,
Without annoying me. And there were drawn
Upon a heap a hundred ghastly women,
Transformed with their fear, who swore they saw
Men, all in fire, walk up and down the streets.
And yesterday the bird of night did sit,
Even at noonday upon the market place,
Hooting and shrieking. With these prodigies
Do so conjointly meet, let not men say,
'These are their reasons, they are natural';
For I believe, they are portentous things
Unto the climate that the point upon."
(Lines 15-32)

Cassius
You are dull, Casca, and those sparks of life
That should be in a Roman you so want,
Or else you use not. You look plae, and gaze,
And put in fear, and cast yoursel in wonder,
To see the strange impatience of the heavens;
But if you would consider the true cause
Why all these fires, why all these gliding ghosts,
Why birds and beasts from quality and kind
Why old men, fools, and children calculate,
Why all thesse things change from thir ordinanc,
Their natures and pre-formed faculties,
To monstrous state. Now could I, Casca name to thee a man
Most like this dreadful night,
That thunders, lightens, opens graves, and roars
As doth the lion in the Capitol;
A man not mightier than thyself, or me,
In personal action, yet prodigious grown,
And fearful, as these strage eruptions are.
(Lines 56-78)

Casca
'Tis Caesar that you mean, is it not Cassius?
(Line 79)
Indeed, they say the senators tomorrow
Mean to establish Caesar as a king;
And he shall wear his crown by sea and land,
In every place, slave here in Italy.
(Lines 85-88)

Cassius
And why should Caesar be a tyrant then?
Poor man! I know he would not be a wolf,
But that he sees the Romans are but sheep:
Here no lion were not Romans hinds.
(Lines 103- 106)
But, O grief,
Where hadst thou led me? I, perhaps, speak this
Before a willing bondman; then I know
My answer must made. But I am arm'd,
And dangers are to me indifferent.
(Lines 111-115)

Casca
You speak to Casca, and to such a man
That is no fleering tell-tale. Hold, my hand;
Be factious for redress of all these griefs,
And I will set this foor of mine as far
As who goes the furthest.

(Lines 116-120)

Cassius
Now know you, Casca, I have mov'd already
Some of the noblest-minded Romans
To undergo me an enterprise.
(Lines 121-123)

School of Athens - Raphael

The claim that art is the mirror of the society is true. But how can it be? You can figure out that the art is a mirror of the society just by looking at the color used, what techniques used and what it is depicting of or what is drawn in the painting. For example, you can figure out when the school of Athens was drawn by looking what is drawn. You can see people with clothes that are not very modern, as well as some famous nobles. The art can draw about any time but, what is painted can tell when it was drawn. This picture use some techniques that were not used during the middle ages, telling it could be a renaissance drawing. This reflect the society by showing how they were, what materials they used and so on.
If I could be one of the person in the drawing of school of Athens, I would defiantly be the person in the middle bottom of the drawing. This lazy person lying on the desk would describe me because to be frank, I am a lazy type of person and sleep a lot. This also describes me in a way that I am suppose to be one task but instead I am wondering around.
